19th Annual 2023 Howard H. Belkin Memorial Golf Tournament

The CT Breast Health Initiative’s mission is to make a difference locally in the fight against breast cancer by providing grants to support education and research. One hundred percent of money raised by CT BHI stays in Connecticut, the only program of its kind in the state.

A Golf Tournament with a Mission.

The Memorial Golf Tournament Founding Chairman, Howard H. Belkin, was a local attorney, State of CT Workers’ Compensation Commissioner, avid golfer, and political activist. It was his dream, in 2004, to raise monies for the statewide work of the CT Breast Health Initiative by creating this annual tournament.

One of the driving forces behind our research endeavors is Dr. Susan H. Tannenbaum, Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UConn Health.

CT BHI grants provide vital support for exploring questions in pilot studies that might otherwise go unasked or for enhancing aspects of larger studies that can truly make a difference for patients.

Over the years, Dr. Tannenbaum and her colleagues at UConn Health have been recipients of CT BHI grants, fueling groundbreaking research initiatives. In 2018, Dr. Tannenbaum received a grant for the study titled “Genomic Assessment of Tumors from Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients: Comparison to Circulating Tumor Cells Identified in Same Patient Population.” Although still in its preliminary stages, this study holds tremendous promise in furthering our understanding of metastatic breast cancer.

Dr. Susan H. Tannenbaum will be speaking at dinner about the impact CT BHI funding has made on her research.
