2020 Annual Appeal
WHERE THERE IS HOPE, THERE IS A WAY! Hope in Action is the path that Connecticut Breast Health Initiative, Inc. (CT BHI) has embraced during the many long months of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
What does this mean to CT BHI? Simply it means our mission does not stop with COVID-19 because Breast Cancer for both women and men continues to multiply every single day. CT BHI is a leader in providing peer reviewed grants for breast cancer research and education right here in Connecticut with a total of $3.95 million granted in 16 years.
Your generous support is especially needed this year as our income has been dramatically reduced. The well-known CT BHI RACE IN THE PARK and the CT BHI Howard H. Belkin Memorial Golf Tournament have been postponed to 2021. Research and education projects in progress continue to need our funding as do those newly awarded this year. Two new cases in point:
UCONN HEALTH, DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING - $50,000 CT BHI AWARD
This project was selected for a grant for the purchase of a 3D Bioprinter to provide custom fit breast forms for those who have had mastectomy and not reconstruction. This unique project is not replicated any place in the world. With CT BHI it will set a new standard while providing quality of life to survivors internationally.
HARTFORD HEALTHCARE, HOSPITAL OF CENTRAL CONNECTICUT - $25,000 CT BHI AWARD
A second quality of life program will give many breast cancer survivors relief from a dreaded painful condition named Lymphedema. This condition is a large swelling of an arm or other extremity which can be treated with expensive compression garments. CT BHI awarded the grant to provide these special garments to those unable to pay due to uninsured, underinsured or faced with other financial barriers.
Gratefully,
Joyce G. Bray & Nancy F. Judd
