In November 2007, the Connecticut Department of Public Health's Commissioner Galvin announced new resources for physicians and their patients in anticipation of increased interest for cancer genetics information. This offer is part of the direct-to-consumer marketing campaign launched in Connecticut and other New England states for tests of certain genes that can cause breast cancer.

The new web-based resource packet contains basic information about breast cancer, a question-and-answer sheet on genetic testing – particularly BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing, a list of cancer genetic counselors in New England, and Connecticut-specific data. All of these documents are posted on the new cancer genetics web page on the DPH website - http://www.ct.gov/dph

The Department developed the webpage "Genetic Testing for Hereditary Breast & Ovarian Cancer: What You Should Know" to help the public better understand hereditary cancers and the issues associated with genetic testing for them.
